Following the Council’s decision to close certain local libraries in order to cut costs, a Steering Committee was formed and following various meetings and discussions with Surrey Library Authority, it is proposed that Tattenhams Library will become a community run library with effect from early March next year.
Under the proposed contract that the volunteer group will have with Surrey County Council (SCC), SCC will continue to provide the building, the books, the computers and free wi-fi access. This will represent everything the library needs except the staffing costs. All volunteers will be fully trained by SCC in operating the library including the soon to be installed self-service system. However, it will be up to the volunteer group how they organise the general day to day activities that are held at the library and how to run fund-raising activities for the future benefit of the library.
Rather than see the local library close, we are going to give it our best shot at keeping the library open for the benefit of the local community. We urgently need enthusiastic volunteers and would be delighted to welcome anyone who cares to join us, and it will be entirely up to you how much or how little time you wish to give. Basically the more volunteers we have, the longer we will be able to open each week. We have some exciting plans for the future and hope you will be able to join us to put these plans into action.
We anticipate being open for business on 5th March 2012 but early in the New Year we will be holding an information and social evening for prospective volunteers so we can pass on further information and organise any training required, as well as all get to know each other.
We sincerely hope you are interested in becoming a volunteer, however little time you think you can spare. To this end please complete and submit the form on this page.
