Local Groups
Established in May 1988, the Downlands Countryside Management Project aims to provide a quality urban fringe countryside service, enhancing the environment for people and wildlife. Its area of operation covers greenbelt countryside in north-east Surrey and adjoining parts of south London.
Countryside walks and events
The Project runs a comprehensive programme of volunteer tasks. No matter whether you have any experience or can only help on the odd day, you will be very welcome.
Some of the events that take place include:
Banstead Countryside Day held in September each year
Our well-known annual event for all the family with a wide variety of stalls with rural crafts, local produce, local groups, wildlife and much more. Held in the fields by Banstead Woods on Holly Lane (adjacent to Holly Lane Car Park), 2 miles south from Banstead (B2219). Chipstead station nearby. Bus route 166 stops at Chipstead Valley, Rectory Lane, approx 10 mins walk to event.
Make the most of your countryside! Phone us on 01737 737700 or 01883 341140 for more information on each walk, or refer to the latest Downlander newsletter which is widely available locally.
Marion's Guided Walks
These walks are for everyone who loves to get out in the fresh air and wants to know more about the history and wildlife of the countryside around them. The walks are circular so we finish at the start point. Marion is a volunteer with both the Downlands Project and Friends of King's Wood. Walks are free but donations are welcome for either organisation. There are no guided walks planned during December and January.
